Gas fees: the calculation and common failures

WHAT YOU WILL LEARN

Work through the four checks below, then use the related tools or contact support if an account-specific question remains.

Different fees, different causes

Exchange trading fees usually depend on traded value and a rate. Gas pays for network execution. Buying, withdrawing, bridging and using a contract can each involve separate costs.

Work through the units

At 21,000 gas and an effective price of 10 gwei, the fee is 0.00021 ETH. This is a worked example, not a live quote. Contract interactions may use substantially more gas.

Why enough tokens may not be enough

Sending a token on Ethereum generally also requires ETH for gas. Other networks may use different fee assets and mechanisms. An exchange withdrawal promotion does not make every subsequent blockchain action free.

Before trying again

Check the transaction hash and status before resubmitting. A failed transaction may still consume execution resources. Confirm the network, estimated total fee and destination before signing.

Scope and verification

This is an independently written practical guide. Product availability, network support and exchange terms can change. Verify the relevant product screen before acting; examples are not live quotes.
