TVL growth: separate prices from new deposits

WHAT YOU WILL LEARN

Work through the four checks below, then use the related tools or contact support if an account-specific question remains.

What TVL measures

Total value locked reflects assets counted under a provider’s methodology. It is not revenue, user numbers, immediately withdrawable cash or a safety rating. Coverage and double-counting rules vary.

A price-only example

A protocol holding 100 ETH has TVL of $200,000 at $2,000 per ETH. At $2,200, TVL becomes $220,000: a 10% increase with no additional ETH deposited.

Compare like with like

Use the same source and period. Separate chain-wide totals from individual protocols. Check asset composition, incentives, repeated collateral use and changes in methodology.

Read Panda snapshots correctly

A captured dollar-value chart shows the scale at collection time, not a live flow of money. To investigate change, compare consistent dates and check asset prices alongside quantities.

Scope and verification

This is an independently written practical guide. Product availability, network support and exchange terms can change. Verify the relevant product screen before acting; examples are not live quotes.
